Communities, eco-villages and alternative travel in Sicily

This is some experiences from our little family, travelling in a camper in Sicily from January-April 2017, visiting different communities and eco-villages and travel as a family in alternative ways. We pretty much only stayed on the eastern part of Sicily, so this is just about that part. Some of the places I found before on the internet, others were contacts from friends. I don't want to put people's personal contact information up here - some of the places have public contact information others not, but you can ask me if you are interested in contacts for any of the places or ask around - the Italian Rainbow Family group on facebook is a good place to ask. Food Circle, Guatemala Gathering 2014 Rainbow Gatherings and the Rainbow Family has been, and is, a really important part of the traveling life for me and I think many other travelers. It's not so much the gatherings itself - I have myself only attended 3 gatherings since my first one in 2009, but the biggest thing, I think, and why I so many times heard the phrase "Rainbow Gatherings changed my life", is the discovery of the family. Giving & Receiving and Living in the Gift

Giving and receiving is a basic human need in my opinion and something I have learned a lot about while traveling. Especially receiving. A cup of tea, the first thing that met us at the border of Iraq When you live like this, without much money and possessions and (materially) not much to give, you are to some extent dependent on the good will of others, and this is an experience that I think many are afraid to face, out of many reasons. First, many people would say that they are afraid that people would not be giving - naturally, since many of us have been raised in a society where people see it as a virtue to be independent and people don't give a lot to each other. Everything is being bought and sold, even human relations. Second, people are afraid of receiving because they are afraid to be dependent and afraid to owe and be in debt. Deep down I think that people are aware of the karmic wheel of giving and receiving and feel that what they take they have to give back. S
